Course Contribution

The distinctive contribution I bring to NYU's faculty and student experience is a teaching approach that combines deep study of historic lives in context with facilitation of students' lives and personal growth. My courses address themes of conformism and personal freedom, discrimination and diversity, life crisis and creative breakthrough, individualism and community values. Through a deep study of impactful figures we attempt to understand their unfolding lives in the context of the great issues of their day and the struggles they engaged in to bring about social transformation. In the process students learn to take their own lives more seriously and often experience personal growth within a dynamic and supportive learning environment.
